Back in April, Google's Gemini gained the ability to generate files for you, from Docs and Sheets to PDFs and Markdown. Until now, though, if you wanted to tweak what it came up with, you had to download or export the file first. Today, Google is fixing that by letting you preview and edit documents, PDFs, presentations, spreadsheets, code, and more right in the Gemini app.
Files can be expanded to full screen, where you can type your edits directly, highlight text to ask questions about it, have Gemini refine the text or visuals, or ask it follow-up questions.
There is a catch, though. PDF preview and editing works both on the web and on mobile, but every other format (Google Docs, Google Sheets, slide decks, Markdown files, TXT files, and code) is supported on the web only, at least for now. The new capabilities are available to all Gemini users, in every language the app supports, starting today.
I actually kinda like it since it means that you did your research first instead of letting AI completely feeding you with the output.
