Samsung's next wide foldable will reportedly get a sibling

Samsung Android Rumors

Samsung launched its first wide foldable, the Galaxy Z Fold8, back in July, alongside the more traditionally shaped Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra. Now a tipster from Korea claims that the wide Fold8 is selling much better than Samsung itself expected, citing sources at a display supplier.

Because of that, Samsung will allegedly add a second model to its wide foldable lineup next year, which the tipster describes as a sure thing. What kind of model it will be hasn't been decided yet. Samsung is reportedly testing two options: one with a bigger display than the current Fold8, and one that keeps the same size but has toned-down specs. Only one of them will make it to market, and a decision is said to be coming soon.

The tentative names for these are the Galaxy Z Fold9+ and the Galaxy Z Fold9 FE, respectively. Samsung hasn't shared sales figures for the wide Fold8 on its own. What it did say is that the Fold8 and Fold8 Ultra together sold 45% more in Europe in their first nine weeks than the Galaxy Z Fold7 did last year, without breaking that number down by model. With the iPhone Duo now on sale too, it makes sense for Samsung to expand in that direction.

In case you need a refresher, the Galaxy Z Fold8 comes with a 7.6-inch 2448x1848 inner screen in a 4:3 aspect ratio, a 5.5-inch 1248x1972 cover display, both LTPO AMOLED with a 120Hz refresh rate, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy chipset, up to 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage, a 50MP main camera with OIS, a 50MP ultrawide, and a 4,800 mAh battery with 45W wired and 20W wireless charging.

Thinking about it, what stops Samsung from making an Exynos-powered Z Fold model? Samsung already stopped using Snapdrgaon chip on the Z Flip series since Z Flip7 after all. I don't even mind seeing a Z Fold8 FE with Exynos 2600 chip. And t...
