HMD Global decided to run away from the cold grey weather in Finland and scheduled a launch event in Dubai, UAE that is starting at 19:00 local time. The #ExpectMore event is expected to introduce three devices to the global audience - Nokia 3.1 Plus and Nokia 5.1 Plus, already available in India.
Update: Event has been postponed by 30 minutes due to traffic-related issues.
The third smartphone we will likely see is the Nokia 8.1, which is just a rebranded Nokia X7 for the inter audience.
Nokia 3.1 Plus and Nokia 5.1 Plus already appeared on sale in the Netherlands and Romania. The first one comes with Helio P22, 3 GB RAM and 32 GB storage for €179, while the second is smaller in size, but mightier with its Helio P60 chipset. The price tag is €259 and will likely start shipping once the official launch is over.
The third phone will be called Nokia 8.1 but does not look like a successor of last year's flagship Nokia 8. In China, it was launched with Snapdragon 710 chipset and 4/6 GB RAM options. The screen has a notched 6.18” LCD panel with Full HD+ resolution - all the specs scream upper-midranger at best.
The main camera is 12 MP with Zeiss optics, coupled with a secondary 13 MP shooter. Price is between CNY1,699 and CNY2,499, which means even if we account tariffs, taxes and additional costs, the Nokia 8.1 will unlikely be more than $400/€350.
They haven't even rolled out the stable release of Oreo for Nokia 2 so why expect for an earlier Nokia 9?
Gotta laugh did you see how bored everyone looked when they announced the new handsets there is just no excitement with HMD
